Volunteer Fundraising Campaign

Thank you for your willingness to create a fundraising campaign to help us enact mobile voting in state around the country. With mobile voting, we can securely expand participation by ensuring everyone has their say in our elections. Your support will ensure we can spread the word with voters and decision-makers alike in this vital work to make our democracy more accessible for all voters.

Please reach out to The Mobile Voting Team at bryce@mobilevoting.org if you have any questions or would like assistance in putting together your fundraising campaign. We are excited to help you share your voice on this critical issue for our democracy.

Background:

An op-ed (short for "opposite the editorial page") is a short opinion piece, typically 600–900 words, written by an individual or group to express a clear, personal viewpoint on a public interest topic like mobile voting. Usually written by guest writers, experts, or community members like you, rather than staff editors, these articles aim to inform, persuade, or provoke, often ending with a call to action.

Build Your Campaign Plan:

Start with a simple, clear plan. You don’t need anything complicated—just a focused goal and a timeline.

Key elements:

  • Fundraising goal: Set a realistic but meaningful target (e.g., $250, $500, $1,000)

  • Timeline: 1–3 weeks works well for momentum

  • Your “why”: Why do you personally support mobile voting? This is your most powerful tool

  • Campaign format:

    • Birthday fundraiser

    • Challenge campaign (“Help me raise $500 in 7 days”)

    • Event-based (virtual gathering, meetup, etc.)

Example plan:

  • Goal: $500

  • Timeline: 10 days

  • Outreach: 25–50 people across personal networks

  • Platforms: Email, text, social media

Reach Out to Your Network

Your strongest supporters are people who already know and trust you.

Start with:

  • Friends

  • Family

  • Neighbors

  • Classmates

  • Coworkers

  • Civic-minded or democracy-focused groups

Tips for effective outreach:

  • Make it personal—individual messages outperform mass posts

  • Share why this matters to you

  • Be clear and direct in asking for support

  • Follow up once if needed
