The Mobile Voting Project Brings an Expo Day to the Minnesota Capitol
On May 11, lawmakers, advocates, and community leaders gathered in the Minnesota State Capitol Rotunda for a successful mobile voting showcase highlighting the future of secure, accessible elections in Minnesota.
Hosted by The Mobile Voting Project and a diverse coalition of civic, disability, faith, labor, and military family advocates, the event gave attendees the opportunity to experience secure mobile voting technology firsthand through a live mock election conducted on iPads and smartphones.
The showcase focused on proposed legislation SF 4559 and HF 4962, which would allow Minnesota cities to opt into mobile voting pilot programs as an additional voting option.
Speakers emphasized how mobile voting could expand access for disabled voters, military families, overseas voters, rural communities, and shift workers while maintaining strong election security and voter privacy protections.
Attendees engaged directly with the technology and asked detailed questions about accessibility, biometric identity verification, encryption, and election integrity. Organizers also demonstrated accessibility features including screen-reader support, voice control, and large-text navigation for blind and low-vision voters.
The event generated strong engagement from lawmakers, Capitol visitors, and media, helping build momentum around efforts to modernize and expand voter access in Minnesota.
