Statement from The Mobile Voting Project in Response to Supreme Court Ruling in U.S. Postal Service v. California Blocking Mail-In Ballot Restrictions For 2026 Midterms

NEW YORK — In response to the Supreme Court ruling blocking the Trump Administration’s new rules that would have upended the mail-in ballot process nationwide and could have disenfranchised millions of voters who depend on this accessible voting option, Sheila Nix, CEO of The Mobile Voting Project, released the following statement:
“The Supreme Court made the right decision, but the fight for voter access isn’t over. The Trump Administration has continuously sowed chaos and uncertainty over mail-in ballots, and they still plan to send 1,000 federal monitors to in-person polling stations. Voter intimidation and confusion remains in full effect.”
“It’s time to innovate when it comes to the way our ballots are cast and introduce an additional accessible option that does not depend on the Postal Service or in-person polling sites. Mobile voting can be that solution.”
“Secure smartphone voting has already been successfully piloted in dozens of elections in states both red and blue — for voters in the military, overseas, and with disabilities. There is now open-source, end-to-end verifiable technology that will allow mobile voting to expand, and the Mobile Voting Project is working with leaders in cities and states across the country to bring this additional option to more voters, starting with local elections.”
“While we are grateful that the Supreme Court has ensured mail-in ballots are protected for the upcoming midterms, the legal battle so close to Election Day has demonstrated how fragile this option is.
